In August, commuters across Sydney celebrated a monumental achievement with the opening of the second stage of Sydney Metro services, part of Australia’s largest public transport project.
Extending from the city’s northwest, beneath Sydney Harbour, and through the bustling CBD to Sydenham in the southwest, the new metro is reshaping the way people travel across the city.
A W Edwards, a proud subsidiary of Bouygues Construction, was entrusted with building Crows Nest Station, one of six brand-new underground stations along this 15.5-kilometre metro extension.
Over 6,000 workers dedicated more than 1.5 million hours, overcoming significant challenges—including navigating Sydney’s wettest year on record—to deliver this city-shaping project for the NSW government.
A W Edwards has demonstrated its commitment to community and sustainability by providing over $87,000 of funding to local events, businesses, and grassroots initiatives. With 95% of construction waste recycled, 75% of the site’s power sourced from renewable energy, and the station buildings on track to earn a 6-star Green Star sustainability rating, this project embodies Bouygues Construction’s philosophy of “Building for Life.”
We are excited to share this incredible achievement with you through the accompanying video, which celebrates the remarkable effort that went into completing this once in a lifetime project which will truly change the way Sydneysiders get around our much-loved city today, and for generations to come.
