The Honourable Dame Quentin Bryce AD CVO officially opened The Sibyl Centre at The Women’s College within The University of Sydney on Thursday 22nd March.
Historically, the mythology of ‘Sibyl’ extends to ancient cultures under various disguises, but consistent is her gift of prophecy. She appeared at The Women’s College in 1913 dramatised in A Mask on the lawn at the front of the Main Building, “a wise woman to whom present, past and future are alike unveiled”.
The Sibyl Centre has contemporary learning areas, music rooms, a studio for design and architecture students, and much more. It will be a place to study and build lasting friendships, engage in intellectual debate and enjoy cultural activities.
The Centre now takes the college forward into a global world of engagement and women’s leadership.
Chair of Council, Julie McKay, notes “The Women’s College is a place that values academic excellence with opportunities for students to develop their leadership capabilities and professional skills. The Sybil Centre is now a tangible representation of the past achievements and future potential of our nation’s young women”.
