Our Sustainability

A W Edwards values a parallel care and respect for people and ecosystems

Guided by our commitment to bringing the concept of sustainability from theory to practice, we take a forward-thinking approach anchored in stakeholder engagement and continuous improvement.

To achieve a fully sustainable low carbon construction lifecycle, our current focus areas include:

  • Material sourcing
  • Energy
  • Waste & Water
  • Biodiversity conservation
  • Pollution prevention
  • Eco-Design
  • Positive contribution to local communities

We are continuously seeking innovations that question the status-quo and lead us to position ourselves as sustainability leaders in the construction industry.

Embodied Carbon

We strive to reduce the embodied carbon in our Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions. This is supported by our corporate climate commitment and strategy in line with our goal to reach net zero emissions across our operations by 2050.

We have also committed to 40% absolute reduction for our scope 1 and 2 emissions and 30% intensity reduction in our scope 3a and 3b emissions by 2030.

Certification

Green star ratings are recognized by the Green Building Council of Australia (GBCA) and Infrastructure Sustainability Council of Australia. The majority of our projects undergo Green Star equivalency accreditation, including our new corporate head office in St. Leonards which has secured a 5-star green star rating.

All of our projects go through the Bouygues Construction Top Site accreditation, making our sites emblems of our operational performance. We also work closely with our clients in attaining other sustainability certifications such as an ISCA rating or LEED certification.

Circular Economy & Biodiversity

A W Edwards embraces circular economy principles in its operations, designing projects efficiently and ensuring that materials are recovered for reuse, remanufacturing, or recycling at their end of life.

A W Edwards has also joined hands with Planting Seeds to protect and enhance natural ecosystems in urban, pre-urban and regional settings. Bouygues Bâtiment International’s Biodiversity guide helps us attain the biodiversity targets that later feed into our Top Site Biodiversity grid.

Net Zero Construction Summit

Net Zero Construction Summit

Our Senior Sustainability Coordinator Tanzin Authoi gave a presentation at the Net Zero Construction Summit on the role of innovation in achieving net zero through a case study of one of A W Edwards’ recently completed projects, which achieved a Platinum rating.

Strategic plans and clear targets are key, but what is even more important is implementation and strong outcomes on the ground. This case study illustrates how we have done that.
